University Venture Development Fund

Entrepreneurship

UO scientists recently received a major grant to explore the biological effects of exposure to precisely engineered nanoparticles. This silicon oxide sphere, created by Yumin Shen, a UO graduate student in physics, is shown at 436X magnification.

The University Venture Development Program already has drawn grants from the National Science Foundation and the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI) to expand a UO program for the benefit of all of Oregon’s public universities. Full story

The UO’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (IEP) not only helps today’s students join the ranks of tomorrow’s business leaders, it helps great new ideas, products, and services reach the people who need them. The IEP draws together interdisciplinary teams of faculty members from business, law, the sciences and technology transfer, puts them together with leaders from the region’s industry and investment communities, reaches out to programs in other universities and the federal Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, then delivers jobs and services through the encouragement of innovative start-ups.
